The Interfaith Hospitality Network shelter program of Family Promise of Hunterdon County, Inc. currently has a county-wide network of 45 congregations; 15 host sites and 31 support congregations.
Host sites provide their facility for 2-6 weeks of the calendar year allowing families to stay there at night and on the weekends for one week at a time. The facility must be large enough to accommodate four families and two volunteers in 6 separate rooms. Each family has a private room. It is also helpful if the host congregation has showering and laundry areas.
The 31 support congregations are divided up to serve as “support” for a host site. The support congregations contribute volunteers, food and sometimes monetary support for a host site. The host sites and their support congregations are typically within a close regional proximity to one another.
