At Family Promise of Hunterdon County, Inc. we envision the day when all families and individuals in our community have the opportunity and means to live independently.

About Us

Homelessness exists beyond urban streets. Yet, in many rural communities throughout the country this problem goes unobserved and unaddressed. In 1990, a group of Hunterdon County residents who recognized the reality of homelessness in their backyard decided to take the initiative to start building a solution.

What began as a rotating model of congregational hosts providing shelter, food, and fellowship has transitioned, out of necessity, to a multi-service organization focused on preventing the loss of housing, mitigating the detrimental and traumatic effects of homelessness, and striving for safe stable and permanent housing for all residents of Hunterdon County.

Programs

Today, Family Promise of Hunterdon County operates The Promise Center, a sheltering program for families and single women, engages individuals living unsheltered through our Hope Restored Project, provides practical financial support to prevent homelessness, and through case management and resource connection, helps households access and sustain permanent housing.

Before receiving help from Family Promise I was homeless with an infant. I was scared and worried that our lives wouldn't get any better. Thanks to the help I received from Family Promise, I was able to get back on my feet and obtain permanent housing. I was able to go back to school, and I was able to find and maintain steady employment.
